Centre for Community Media (CFCM) is a new initiative for fostering better information consuming communities and democratising the media space. The endeavor, we believe will build our identities as a community of people living in Salem.

We are a group of professional media employees, academicians and social workers in association with the public.

Our Vision- We envision to shift the media power in the hands of the people who will be drivers of news content.

Our Mission -

CFCM is here to fill the democracy deficit in the mainstream media and the credibility deficit in the social media space.

Our news portal Salem Online News (Powered by India Online) is an experiment in community journalism aimed at exploring and expanding the digital media space at the local community level where democracy is most vulnerable. As an evolving cultural form, Community Journalism has gained critical mass with hyperlocal audience. Thanks to digital technology, every citizen with a mobile phone access has turned into a publisher/broadcaster. Our experiment would involve curating, moderating and republishing the citizen generated content. Our mission will hence include training engaged citizens to be more responsible, ethical and accurate when sharing content. We will also impart media literacy on a mass scale to make news consuming a discerning acmtivity.

With its hyper local reach, Salem Online News will be a community asset, representing the Salem Community to itself and a window of Salem to the outer world.
